The Dock, Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Poshbrood loves Maine!!
We go every summer and have found the quintessetial family-friendly home on the water. Literally, on the water. In beautiful Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
The Dock is the closest you can get to the water. It is an over-the-water house with water views from every room. The house is off the beaten path yet walking distance to the quaint town of Boothbay Harbor.
With 180-degree water views, The Dock is the ultimate escape for water lovers, boaters or nature lovers.
The Dock has 5 bedrooms (with queen beds), 4 baths, 1 full kitchen with an additional kitchenette near the back bedrooms.
A great room encompassing the open kitchen, livining and dining areas for family gatherings, evening cocktails and meals. The best part of the house is a very generous outdoor dock area with picnic tables and chairs for enjoying the views.
We stayed at the Dock for one glorious week in August 2014, with my sister’s family. There were 9 of us in total – 5 kids, 4 adults and there was plenty of space. We put kids in the back three bedrooms and the adults in the front two and it worked out great. The house has three pullout couches so can sleep 14 total.
For one weekend, we had another couple join us and there was still plenty of room and privacy. One of our favorite features of the home is the home’s dock and float. Bring your boat!!
Our kids spent hours jumping from the float, swimming, kayaking and also paddle boarding. We rented equipment from Tidal Transit Kayak and they will even pick up and drop off for you.
Several days we paddled into town for lunch and ice cream at Wannawaf then paddled home. Be prepared to wave to friendly boaters and encounter curious seals in the harbor.
The home is well-appointed – comfy linens and towels are provided, there are hair dryers, washer and dryer and WiFi. The décor is seaside chic but not too precious for families.
There is cable TV, a stereo and loads of games for rainy days.
There is a caretaker who meets you upon arrival and check out and is available if you have any questions or should any concerns arise (we had none – in fact – the only time the caretaker came by was to deliver cooked lobster dinner since we were new renters).
There is also a gas grill for a casual evening BBQ and the sunset should not be missed from the amazing crow’s nest.
The Dock is an easy walk to one of our favorite restaurants, The Lobster Dock, which can’t be missed during a stay in Boothbay Harbor. Other highlights included dinner at nearby Spruce Point Inn, an afternoon at the stunning Maine Botanical Gardens and a rainy day visit to the aquarium.
For the ultimate seaside Maine escape, we can’t recommend The Dock enough and hope to book another family retreat there very soon!
