Sandals Montego Bay
'You went to Jamaica, for the weekend?!' This has been the typical response I have received everytime I tell someone that I just returned from a 4 day getaway to Sandals Montego Bay with 6 other couples.
I love to travel, and I love to travel with my children, but having four children between the ages of 10 and 5 means that my husband and I rarely get to spend any quality time together. So we decided we needed to do something about that.
Vacationing without children is not something many adults take the time to do, but as my 40th birthday quickly approached I knew that I wanted to do something special to celebrate, and that I wanted to do it without kids. Plus, the kids were back in school, the rates are incredibly reasonable and the timing was perfect!
Friends of ours frequent Sandals resorts and suggested that we head to Sandals Montego Bay in Jamaica. Sandals Montego Bay is a luxury, adult-only all inclusive resort on the largest private beach in the area.
I was instantly sold, especially considering Sandals has a rewards club where you earn rewards points for each trip you book. Of all the Sandals resorts in Jamaica we decided on the Montego Bay location because of its proximity to the airport. Since we were only gone for a long weekend (it's hard to find someone to look after 4 children for much longer than that) it was important that we make the most of our time.
Sandals Montego Bay is located only about 10 minutes from the airport. When we arrived in Jamaica we were pleased to see that Sandals has their very own lounge, so as we waited for our shuttle to arrive we were able to wait in comfort. The shuttle only took a few minutes and before we knew it we were off to our vacation.
The resort was gorgeous with its plantation style decor and stunning, lush grounds, but it really is the Sandals service that makes it so enjoyable to visit one of their luxury resorts.
The resort offered so many activities onsite even though we were only there for a short time. Canoeing, kayaking, snorkling, paddle boards, sailboats, tubing, waterskiing and even scuba diving are all included in the rates.
We enjoyed a fabulous catamaran cruise, had amazing dinners at a variety of the resort's many restaurants, (all of which overlooked the Caribbean Sea - what a view!)
We took in the nightly shows while enjoying post dinner cocktails and we danced the night away at the pub and piano bars.
Our days were spent relaxing poolside, enjoying the swim up bar (LOVE IT!), taking out the sailboats for some beach fun and enjoying the fabulous Red Lane Spa.
Really, what more could you ask for in an adults only getaway?!
Sandals Montego Bay offers a variety of room options too, but no matter which room option you choose you can be guaranteed that all of them are beautiful.
We had a gorgeous suite that looked right out on to the beach and we had the extra luxury of having butler service (which really is a lovely touch and perfect to spoil yourself with for that extra special service). Nothing is better than waking up to the Jamaican sun and having breakfast delivered to your room to enjoy on your patio.
This was my first time vacationing at an adults-only resort, and I can't wait to do it again. Four days was the perfect amount of time for an adults only getaway, and the cost of the vacation was definitely affordable, especially considering that we earned points that we can now apply to our family trip to a sister property -- Beaches Turks and Caicos -- when we travel with the kids.
There were 14 of us who made this long weekend trip to Sandals Montego Bay and all of us can't wait to go back. I know it's hard sometimes to getaway from the kids and enjoy an adults only vacation, but if I can go to Jamaica for the weekend from Ottowa, Canada, so can you!
--Rates begin at $500 a day per couple. Rates include all meals, drinks, and activities.
