Residence Inn
This is another "fingers crossed" trip to see the Grandparents in AZ. After we did a lot of online research and Grandparents spoke to their network, we decided on the Residence Inn. Well, phew! This Residence Inn is a totally renovated, fab, modern hotel. Check in with two small kids and a baby was a breeze and the front desk was extremely friendly. We opted for a two-bedroom suite and it was big -- 840 square feet! The room had a living/sitting area with a pull out sofa bed, a dining area, kitchen and two bedrooms (one King, one Queen) with ensuite bathrooms. We put the bigger girls in the queen bedroom and the baby in a crib the hotel provided. The kitchen was amazing and totally outfitted with a fridge, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, pots, pans and cleaning supplies. The counters were granite, the appliances stainless steel and cabinets cherry -- so hip! We had so much space we had the other families over for cocktails and snacks a couple of times. We also appreciated the non smoking policy and free WiFi. BTW our room had 3 flat screen TVs with premiere cable channels and movies, an IPod docking station and a CD stereo system.
The lobby is large with nice sitting areas and a fireplace. Weather permitting the outside patio offered a scenic place to lounge by the fireplace on cushioned seats around planters. There is also a large pool, a kids' pool and hot tub that all the children enjoyed. The continental breakfast is included and offered many choices: yogurt, bagels, cereal, waffle machine, juice, fruit, oatmeal, coffee and tea.
The hotel is close to many chain restaurants from Olive Garden to Chili's to Starbucks. We made a beeline to the In-N-Out Burger just a few minutes' drive from the hotel to get some "animal style" burgers, shakes and fries.
Tip: Don't miss a trip to the Heritage Park Zoo situated on ten acres north of Prescott, overlooking Willow Lake. The sanctuary has a covered picnic pavilion, a children’s playground, and large landscaped enclosures for the animals with paths that allow visitors to get an up-close and personal view of them. Poshbrood loved seeing the tiger, an American Black Bear, a jaguar, the javelinas, grey foxes, a mountain lion and the ring-tailed lemurs. We skipped the Tarantula Grotto but apparently it's award-winning -- knock yourselves out! http://www.heritageparkzoo.org/
Prescott is 90 miles NW of Phoenix & 90 miles SW of Flagstaff. The Grand Canyon National Park is 80 miles away, the Grand Canyon Railway 30 miles away and Sedona 42 miles away.
Room rates begin at $109 per night for a studio suite with two queen beds and pullout couch to $199 for a two bedroom suite (one king, one queen) plus a sofabed.
