The Peninsula Beverly Hills
90210, dahling....If you’ve got some coin, The Peninsula Beverly Hills is the ultimate Los Angeles luxury family hotel. A five-diamond award winning hotel, The Peninsula is a tropical haven in the middle of Beverly Hills where the unmatched personal service is the hotel’s trademark. The hotel is fancy, European-style elegant, but the staff is friendly and relaxed with guests and children. The Peninsula’s rooms are very, very large. A superior room is 480 square feet! (Take that, NYC!)
Poshbrood was upgraded and we stayed in one of the “villas” separate from main building. Our one-bedroom suite was on the second floor, was outrageously spacious, also had a large and luxurious marble bathroom with separate tub and shower, a wet bar, two flat screen televisions, two desks, a hallway with generous closets, a small balcony off of the living room with café table and chairs to enjoy your coffee or an evening cocktail. Beds are scrumptious. Guests are tucked in at night with Frette linens and the bedside climate and lighting controls are a wonderful treat. The only non noteworthy feedback we had was why there wasn’t a sleeper sofa in the living room of the villa? Not an issue, though. As quick as a bunny, the hotel brought was a rollaway bed brought in with twin sized Frette linens.
Most of the rooms can be connected to a second room for larger families and if you book a Garden or Deluxe suite, guests are given a complimentary Cadillac (with a license and proof of insurance) for the duration of the stay. So Hollywood! When we grow up we want to stay in the Peninsula Villa, a two bedroom (can be made three bedroom also) private villa surrounded by the tropical gardens, very private and offering 2,336 square feet of family space….sigh.
Young guests are welcomed with mini Peninsula bath robes and slippers (I. DIE.), cookies, a teddy bear and activity kits. The Peninsula Academy offers young guests the opportunity to experience iconic LA/Hollywood by taking surfing lessons in Malibu followed by a picnic on the beach or having a cooking lesson with the Peninsula chef. There are DVD players in each room, kid’s channels and a library of children’s DVDs for guest’s use. There are also children’s menus in each of the hotel’s dining areas. The hotel is also super pet friendly -- no size limits (I always howl when hotels say we accept pets under 20 pounds, that's a squirrel in my neighborhood!) and dog walking and grooming services and pet beds available.
We grabbed dinner in The Club Bar which exudes old Hollywood chic with wood paneled walls, big banquettes and mood lighting. We enjoyed signature Peninsula cocktails and a delicious light dinner of chicken quesadillas, chicken lettuce wraps and truffle macaroni and cheese. Move over, Stouffers.
Poshbrood did not have time to use the Spa or dip in the rooftop heated pool but it also gives me an excuse to go back. Also an excellent location if you're interested in celeb spotting!
Superior room rates begin at $475/night but the hotel’s exclusive 24-hour checkout policy (you can keep your room for 24 hours from the time you check in) is a huge bonus, especially when traveling with families. Check the website for seasonal and weekend specials and added value promotion.
