Omni New Haven Hotel
We've been on vacation together as a family many times before, but this was our first venture to the East Coast.
We survived our six-hour-plus plane trip across the country from our home in Los Angeles to our destination, but just barely...
After two tantrums – one from my husband and the other from our son – we were all thankful to get off of that plane, as were our fellow passengers.
Our first stop was New Haven, Connecticut for a wedding then a venture out to the Big Apple for a few more days.
We arrived at La Guardia and rented a car for our drive to New Haven. If you're planning a similar trip, the plane flights are a lot more reasonable into New York then they are into Hartford.
The Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale is above and beyond the most family friendly hotel I've stayed at – period. The New Haven location is the perfect mix of New England charm and modern luxury.
Upon arrival, our entire family was greeted and made to feel at home. It was much appreciated as we had been traveling for most of the day and everyone was exhausted.
On the first night, they delivered chilled bottles of water for our family, plus milk and cookies for our son. He was in heaven!
We sunk in to the comfortable beds and quickly fell asleep. It wasn’t until the morning that we realized what an incredible view we had.
We could literally see all of downtown New Haven, the historic Yale campus, and most of Long Island Sound.

The next morning our son received an arrival bag with snacks, a water bottle, games and more from Omni Kids. It was great for taking on the road and totally kept him busy.
Plus, we were able to take a rolling back pack full of books and puzzles from the front desk back up to our room for playtime.
The next day was breakfast in the room. They also have a great option at the onsite restaurant, Davenports, for New England favorites and breakfast buffets.
While there, we headed out for a few site-seeing adventures. Here are a few of the best, all of which are within just a few miles of the hotel:
Yale Peabody Museum – If you have a dinosaur loving kid, check out out the Yale Peabody Natural History Museum. Children three and under are free.
Top it all off with a walk through this historic Yale campus. While they offer tours, you can easily just walk around yourself and gain just as much as you would from a docent.
New Haven Green – Get a good taste for real everyday New England life in one of the oldest parks in the country.
This is a great spot for sitting on wooden park benches and sipping coffee – seriously there are like ten coffee places surrounding the park. Let this kiddos go pigeon chasing and squirrel spotting, while you take a break.
Louis Lunch – Definitely try out this local haunt for one of the best burgers you'll ever eat. It's a small hole in the wall, but based on the line you'll know that you are going to get quality food.
Louis' was featured on Food Network as the original birthplace of the Hamburger! Charbroiled goodness and tasty treats await.
Lighthouse Park – Lighthouse Park is one part beach one part park. Wide open green spaces are great for letting the kids run wild. Parents will love exploring a historic lighthouse and the views of Long Island Sound.
Tide pools are everywhere. If you're lucky, the old fashioned merry go round will be lit and working.
Bishop Orchards – Just a few miles outside of town, you can grab a cart and go apple picking depending on what time of year it is. At other times you can pick peaches, berries, pumpkins and more. It's well worth the trip for adults and kids.
There's also a great farmers market where you can pick up some great local favorites Connecticut maple syrup kettle corn, apple cider, apple cider donuts, and local wines.
As you can imagine, we were truly beat after long days of site seeing. So the nightly turn down service that the Omni offered was a welcomed treat.
Turndown for Mouse
They even took note of my son's stuffed animal and blankie and made sure to tuck him in for bed as well. So cute. It was the added touches that made us feel so comfortable.
We were there for three nights and it truly felt like we were coming home after a long day of travel. We loved Omni New Haven Hotel!
Room rates start at $161 a night. You can book your stay at Omni New Haven Hotel with Poshbrood.
