Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa
Poshbrood just had a wonderful stay Memorial Day weekend at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Nemacolin is within a five-hour drive from most Mid-Atlantic cities including DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Columbus, Cleveland and New York.
Nemacolin is located on 2,000 wooded acres and is one of only six hotels and resorts in the world to host Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond lodging and dining.
Nemacolin Resort has six different lodging options for every type of traveler -- from an RV park -- to a glam Frank-Lloyd Wright boutique hotel -- to family-friendly townhouses – you’ll find your ideal vacation lodgings here.
We stayed in two connecting rooms in the Chateau, which is modeled after the Ritz Paris...ooh la la. Although it's very glam, it's very kid and family-friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed, not stuffy.
The adjoining rooms offered our family of five more than enough space.
The girls room was a junior suite with two queen beds, sitting area and full bath and our room was a large king room with full bath and a giant soaking tub.
The ceilings in the Chateau buildings are very high and you really do feel like you're in a Paris pied-à-terre.
As for activities, you name it, Nemacolin’s got it.
There are zip lines, hiking, mini golf, several world class golf courses, mini golf, a fitness center, pony rides, Jamaican dog sledding, outdoor and indoor pools, a world-class spa with 100 treatment rooms, off-road driving academy, fly fishing, skeet shooting, mountain biking, the remarkable Kidz Club and rope courses among other activities.
Visitors in the winter will enjoy onsite skiing, tubing, dog sledding and snowshoeing.
Nemacolin also has it’s own Wildlife Center with almost 100 species of animals including Bengal tigers, zebras, bears, a sacred white buffalo, hyenas and sloths. We took the animal safari train around the property to see the animals and even feed the goats and loved it.
The food at Nemacolin is extraordinary and choices range from a 50’s style kitschy diner at PJ’s, casual pub fare at The Tavern and fine French cuisine at Lautrec’s. The first night we ate at The Tavern, and it was perfect.
Pizzas for kids, great sharing appetizers like pretzels with cheese dip for everyone and some great choice cocktails for adults. PS -- The Tavern has the world's largest indoor fish tank too, if you have to wait a bit for your table, it's no problem. Our kids were mezmerized!
After a great night's rest, we grabbed a quick breakfast at the coffee house in the Lodge building and dropped the girls off for a half day at Kidz Club.
Whoa, what an operation. The girls barely gave us a backward glance as they marched into the kid zone. It's full of dress up clothes, puzzles, toys, books and arts and crafts. (There is also a "Little Tykes" area for babies and toddlers from 6 weeks to 3 years of age.)
The counselors were going to take them to the Hardy Girls Gym that day to do the trampoline as it was a bit rainy outside, then take them to see some of the animals.
With the kids happliy engaged, Mr. Posh and I went to the fitness center and spa. Holy Wow.
The Woodlands Spa is truly incredible -- 40 treatment rooms and over 100 different treatments. In the compound, there is an indoor heated lap pool and wet areas, featuring whirlpool tubs, steam and sauna areas as well.
We both opted for massages that were lovely. The resort offers many Spa Vacation Packages -- it would be such a great place to do a girls' weekend.
In fact, if you're so inclined to pamper your little ones, Nemacolin has a Kidz Spa that caters to kidz ages 5 - 15 to experience and appreciate the benefits of a spa experience. (I opted not to tell our little divas about this option this trip!)
We wrapped up our stay with some time at the outdoor pool. It was a bit chilly, but the girls didn't mind one bit and were quite taken with the slide.
We extracted them from the pool with the promise of ice cream at PJ's before hitting the road.
We loved our stay at Nemacolin and can't wait to return for a longer visit experience the full extent of the property, all the activities and the family-friendly amenities. Bonus Points: Nemacolin is very pet-friendly including larger dogs so you don't have to leave Fido at home.
Also, worth noting for those of you who appreciate a few hands of blackjack, Nemacolin's "Lady Luck" Casino has just opened on property.
Room rates start at $299 a night. Click here to book your Nemacolin escape with Poshbrood/SmartFlyer!
