Montage Beverly Hills
Poshbrood loaded up the truck and went to Beverly. Hills that is, Swimming pools, movie stars. You can't do better than The Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, California! We spent two nights there and the littles and adults all agreed that it's the Cat's Meow.
We checked in after flying (on our fave Virgin America) from IAD-LAX with a 3 year old and then driving straight to the Soho House for lunch with a colleague (where we spied "Lost"'s Daniel Dae Kim, yummy) Little girlfriend was exhausted. The hotel is stunning -- Mediterranean/Spanish in design and you can't believe the beautiful flower arrangements in the front foyer. The front desk staff whisked us through check in and Penelope was greeted with a rolling red car full of small stuffed puppies. She got to chose one and was thrilled. We went to our room on the third floor across the terrace from the Spa and Fitness area. We were in a Standard Guestroom -- the hotel's smallest -- with a generous 480 square feet of living space, with two queen beds. Marble and mosaic-tiled bathrooms feature dual sinks, generous tubs and a separate shower with dual showerheads and sitting bench. Penelope and I agreed our favorite thing about the room was the huge "Princess tub" with the TV in the wall. So decadent!
The other amazing and unique amenitiy of the Montage is their exclusive kids' program for hotel, restaurant and spa guests. Paintbox affords parents the opportunity to have a fun Los Angeles family vacation while also being able to experience time for themselves, whether discovering Beverly Hills, being pampered at Spa Montage, or enjoying an intimate dining experience. Plus, children will enjoy an array of daily supervised activities that are specially themed to create a playful and engaging learning environment. Penelope had a morning at Paintbox alone with Stacy, the director who is our new BFF and hero and then our second day all of our girls had a few hours at Paintbox while Mommy worked and packed for check out. You cannot believe the arts and crafts and fun things we took home with us!
While we were at The Montage we took advantage of the most awesome "Pampered Parents Package." Any parent who reserves a 60-minute treatment at Spa Montage will receive the first two hours of Paintbox complimentary. LOVE THIS. I went to the health club and then had a lovely massage at the Spa Montage while the girls were at Paintbox. For those of us who don't roll with full time nannies, this is a huge benefit that no other Beverly Hills hotels offer. We did spy some celeb spawn at Paintbox and a Grey's Anatomy cast member at the Spa. Keep those glam shades and lipstick on, ladies, you never know who you might see at The Montage!
We ate dinner at the hotel's award winning and very glam Italian restaurant, Scarpetta, our first evening. The staff was lovely with our toddler and special requests that included a booster seat, shirley temple in a plastic cup with a lid, pasta with butter and vanilla ice cream with extra sprinkles. The adults had a wonderful evening and meal -- don't miss the polenta appetizer with truffles. Delish!
The next day Penelope and I ordered in room service for breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes that I ended up eating the majority of and it was worth every calorie. (Note, they have kids' portion breakfast, the adult order is massive! See the stack?!)
Later that day after a stroll around Bev Hills, her grandparents and I enjoyed the "Mommy and Me Tea" in the Lobby Lounge. Expert tea specialists serve exclusive artisan tea varieties, finger sandwiches, champagne (or sparking cider for the tots) and delish pastries. The children's tea menu includes: nutella, pb&j, grilled cheese sandwiches, assortment of pastries with “champagne” mocktail. A harpist adds to the soothing and special environment.
The staff also brought out a stack of books for Penelope to puruse while the adults were chatting and the harpist let Penelope strum the instrument. Do not miss the tea -- so special! You can see the entire afternoon tea menu here.
Later we went to the rooftop pool for an evening dip with a cousin while the moms had a nice glass of wine. The views from the rooftop are amazing and you can have lunch at the Conservatory Grill al fresco while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Hollywood hills. Another huge plus of The Montage is that it's not only steps away from the famed shopping street of Rodeo Drive but also next to Beverly Canon Gardens, 33,000 square feet of public gardens and open space features public outdoor dining areas, water features, landscaped gardens, and public colonnaded walkways connecting Beverly and Canon Drives. It is a great place to read, have a cup of coffee, run or just enjoy the California sunshine.
The second night we walked down the street and went to Coupa Cafe for dinner which is a family-owned Venenzualan restaurant that focuses on the use of organic products, fair trade and healthy choices on their diverse menu. We had hummus, empanadas, salads and beans and rice and the girls ate almost as much as their mommies. Super friendly to families, great prices and there was also live music the night we were there.
Even though we were leaving 90210 for a long weekend in Santa Barbara, we were all very sad to leave The Montage. The girls think it's our LA "apartment" and talk about their friend Stacy, the boss of Paintbox, who knows Justin Bieber and who's met "The Beverly Hills Chihuahua." The girls even received a card from Stacy upon our return home. We can't wait to go back -- Stacy, please save our cubbies at Paintbox!
