When traveling with kids, convenience is paramount. Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. understands that and delivers with class. Kingsmill is a four-diamond, Preferred Hotels property that hugs the scenic James River and is surrounded by a range of family attractions including Busch Gardens amusement park, the historic Colonial Williamsburg and other colonial/civil war historical areas, and Water Country USA. Here is the kicker: Kingsmill runs a courtesy shuttle for their guests to each of these sites. Yes, leave the car, they’ll do the driving.
There is also plenty to do at the resort… so much, in fact, that your family may not want to leave. The golf and tennis is top notch. Our family rented bikes and rode the casual 4-mile loop through the adjacent private neighborhood. Paddle-boat, kayak and jon boat rentals are available on the gorgeous Wareham pond for a day on the water (something that our little Poshbrooders insisted we come back for.) Kingsmill will pick you up at your room and shuttle you to any location on the property and after a full day of fun, there are three restaurants and a coffee/dessert shop that will feed the family.
Kingsmill also has a Kid's Kamp and Kids Night Out for ages 5-12 to allow parents some adult time while kids swim, enjoy arts and crafts, meet new friends and eat a healthy lunch.
The lodging is set up villa-style with multi-unit cottages along the river, golf courses, Wareham Pond and tennis facilities. Our crew stayed in a spacious 2-bedroom River Suite that opened up to stunning views of the James River. We parents enjoyed the layout that put the master suite just far enough from the kids room to give us the privacy and down time we needed without being completely isolated. Rates range from $149 for guest rooms to $429 for 3-bedroom suites on the river. Packages vary seasonally, and cater to all types of visitors.
