Our large, motley crew of five plus two massive black labs rolled into to Hotel Marlowe with bikes on the back of our rig which was filled to the brim roadie style. The kids were squirmy after the drive, but doormen were extremely kind and patient with us. It took a looooog time to unload.
Set on the Charles River across from downtown Boston, the Hotel Marlowe is an eclectic, vibrant four-diamond boutique hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The girls thought the lobby looked like a princess room (it does look gothic, eccentric, royal hipster) and were so excited to arrive. At check-in, the girls received the KimptonKids welcome gifts and were able to pick out two treasures (silly bandz, plastic rings, figures, small stuffed animals) from the treasure chest. This also took a long time. We went up to our room which was a dazzling suite connecting to a double double and it was enormous! We could have all very comfortably slept in the suite, but it is very nice for the kids to have their own space. The dogs had beds and treats waiting for them and although the rooms were beautiful, there was nothing “Philippe Starck” white or fragile that made me nervous with our crew. Gotta love the leopard carpet!
The Hotel Marlowe is ideally situated for exploring everything Cambridge and greater Boston has to offer. That evening we took a cab about 10 minutes to Harvard Square and had a fun family dinner at The Border Café which offered excellent margaritas, great kid's menus and enough liveliness to drown out any misbehaving. A stroll around the square and ice cream is a great way to keep kids entertained for hours on the cheap.
There are tons of family activities nearby including parks, the Charles River, bike paths, paddleboats, and the very cool Museum of Science is a five minute walk from the hotel. Other amenities include:
- High-speed Internet access, complimentary to Kimpton InTouch Guest Loyalty members
- Bambara—the hotel’s brasserie that served a mean breakfast.
- Full service onsite gym.
- 24-hour room service and kids menus.
- Baby gear, strollers, high chairs, cribs, boosters on request.
- Luxury linens, iHomes, down comforters, and Aveda bath amenities.
- Coffeemakers with complimentary gourmet coffee.
- Use of bikes and kayaks.
- "Forgot It? We've Got It!" essential travel items.
Hotel Marlowe rooms start at $156 a night and with family packages and advanced booking, a double double can be as low as $314 for a family of four. Poshbrood thinks this is worthy of the coveted coupon clipper category!
