A FamilyMoon to Remember
Last year after getting married, my wife and I decided to take two trips to celebrate, a honeymoon and family moon. FamilyMoon first, of course!
We looked at several options, and after consulting with Poshbrood, settled on a special private villa in Round Hill, Jamaica. We were put in contact with Linda Smith who runs Villas by Linda Smith to select just the right villa to suit our needs.
We chose an incredible villa by the name of Almond Hill. It sits on 3 beautiful acres overlooking Montego Bay, with 4 bedrooms, an incredible staff to make our stay comfortable, and a pack of friendly dogs.
The villa is owned by a British Royal family who only stays there twice a year. It was by far the best vacation I have ever experienced.
The villa and resort sits a short 20 minute drive from the Montego Bay Airport, and after a short 3 hour flight from Dulles, we were all enjoying a home-cooked lunch on our veranda by Noon of our first day.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the villa’s staff. Rueben was the house butler, Polly the cook, along with a cast of others that would soon make our stay a memorable one. Once settled in, we were served a warm lunch and let to start our relaxing stay. From that point forward, it was if time stood still.
Each day were were greeted by Rueben and our breakfast of fresh fruits and fresh hot Jamaican coffee.
After breakfast our days usually were spent around the villa’s private pool relaxing and enjoying the warm June sun. After Polly made us a casual lunch we would spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach of the Round Hill resort.
The resort was small, quaint, uncrowded and perfect for adults and children alike. The beach is in a small cove protected by an offshore reef.
The water was crystal clear and calm so the children could explore and play in complete safety. We took kayak rides, snorkeled, jumped on the ocean trampoline, relaxed by the luxurious infinity pool, and most of all enjoyed our time.
After a relaxing afternoon, we would head back to the villa to relax and get ready for dinner. Pre-dinner activities usually included a fresh glass of rum punch, a beer or two and some reading while the girls played in the yard and caught up on their movie viewing. Polly always dazzled us with a home cooked meal served by Reuben on the open air veranda.
This is how our days progressed as the week seemed to stretch into three. Each day our cares washed away by the incredible surroundings and the even more incredible staff who took care every need.
Overall the price of $2400/wk was incredible, as our June stay was considered “off-season”. We spent about another $500 on food for the week.
Upon our arrival we gave Polly a sum of money, she bought groceries each day and would give us the receipts and we tallied the total up at the end of the week. Our only other expense was a well deserved gift for all the staff members that made our stay so enjoyable.
This vacation set the bar to a level that will be hard to be matched. We plan on returning to Round Hill in the near future, with family and friends to make time stand still.
