Spend a week in Leonardo DiCaprio’s home!
A trip to Palm Springs is just what you need to clear away the winter gloom. And while you’re there, why not stay at long-time meme, social activist and recent Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio’s place? Because you can! His six bedroom, seven and a half bath home is available to rent for $4,500 a night.
What do you get for your money? Quite a bit! The 7,000 sqft home, guest house and casita sits on 1.3 acres of land and includes tennis courts, a heated pool and a chef’s kitchen. The amazing living room features a grand piano, cocktail bar and one of the many fireplaces scattered throughout the house. There’s also daily maid service and, of course, wi-fi.
The property is located in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood where old-time Hollywood celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, Liberace and Elvis Presley had their vacation homes. From the home, you’ll be able to walk to downtown Palm Springs to enjoy fine dining, great shopping, live theater, art galleries and more!

Do St. Paddy’s Day Right in Montserrat
What is the only only nation in the world, outside of Ireland, to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day as a national holiday? Montserrat, of course! On this Caribbean island, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations go beyond the “ordinary” custom of wearing the color green and drinking beer at the neighborhood pub. Montserratians shake up St. Paddy’s Day Caribbean-style—infusing their African and Irish heritage into the yearly celebrations.
The approximately 39 square mile island is lush, green and mountainous and lies in the Eastern Caribbean chain of islands. Known fondly as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, the pear-shaped island is a traveler’s paradise for nature lovers, divers, adventurers, family and villa vacationers and honeymooners.
The St. Patrick’s Day celebration is a week of feasts, costumed parades, concerts and cultural exhibitions that commemorate the planned slave uprising that occurred on the island during St. Patrick’s Day in 1768. Local bars and restaurants celebrate in the traditional Irish way, by serving Guinness and decorating with shamrocks and plenty of green, but that’s just the start! National exhibitions showcase the island’s history, art and literature. There’s a “Catch the Mermaid” island-wide treasure hunt, a Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, a pub crawl; a Freedom Walk and Run; a Heritage Day Feast, offering samples of local traditional foods, such as bush tea, goat water, stewed yard fowl and the “not-to-be-missed” event Leprechaun’s Revenge.
The harp and female figure on the flag and official seal of Montserrat are derived from the Irish heraldy and in the southern region of the island, there is even a village named St. Patrick’s (located in the exclusion zone). Goat water, the national dish made of kid or mutton and spiced with cloves and rum, is believed to hail from the original Emerald Isle. The Irish legacy is present in the folklore, surnames and even the local speech that is laced with an Irish brogue.

It’s an Oscar Time of Year Again!
It’s that time of year again! The 2016 Oscars are THIS Sunday. We’re excited to watch, but even more excited to find out what’s in the annual, exclusive swag bag that’s always filled with crazy, extravagant goodies. The loot this year is worth a total of $232,000—up 43% from last year. In fact, this year’s offering is so over-the-top, the Academy is suing the independent company that creates the bags for going too far…
We still want to know, though, what’s in the fab swag bag? Everything from a Haze dual-chamber vaporizer to fancy bathroom tissue from Joseph’s Toiletries and even $5,530 worth of plastic surgery from 740 Park in New York City. Keep in mind these fancy treats are NOT sanctioned or approved by the Academy!
Travel Worthy of a Celebrity
In addition to the dozens of amazing items we’re dying to get our hands on, there are loads of luxury vacations. How about a 10-day vacation to Israel with all expenses paid? Or a $10,000 Italian trip (returning from last year) with 3-day stays at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como. There’s also a private 15-day walking tour of Japan valued at $54,000 and a 3-day stay at the Golden Door Spa Resort in San Marcos, CA valued at $4,800. All in all, travel makes up more than half of the gift bag’s price tag.
Things We Love
Some of the coolest non-travel items are a lifetime supply of Pu-erh Tea Nourishing Cream and Cleansing Bars from Lizora and a $300 gift certificate to trendy women’s clothes designer Belldini. We also love the beautiful Sedona Lace makeup brushes!
What’s your favorite? Share in the comments below!

5 UK Attractions that will Inspire Your Imagination!
Sometimes we hear about attractions that sound so fun, we know we’re just using “the kids” as an excuse to visit. Following on from our article last week, we’re looking at 5 UK attractions that will inspire the imagination of even the most jaded kids and adults!
Not that far away from amazingly beautiful Windsor Castle, you can stop by Legoland Windsor Resort—one of the most colorful and lively places in the UK. Just like in the US, this theme park is built entirely with Lego blocks, and they even have working Lego cars! Legoland in Windsor is full of themed rides, mini-models of famous tourists sites, and building workshops where the whole family can express their creativity.
Alnwick Castle, Northumberland
If you’re already missing Downton Abby, head to Alnwick Castle in the North of England. The 2014 Christmas show was filmed there, and you can check out their permanent display of costumes and props from that episode. Enjoy a real-life knight experience when you dress up in traditional medieval attires and explore the castle, make some medieval crafts with the Company of Artisans, start an epic dragon quest or just walk around dressed like a Lord or Lady!
Bristol Science Centre, Bristol
Give your kids the chance to fall in love with chemistry, psychics and other sciences when you take them to Bristol Science Centre. Try your hand at crazy, interesting experiments, invent something unique and explore the solar system all in one awesome location. There are tons of special activities for all ages!
Natural History Museum, London
Kids love to check out real dinosaurs skeletons and learn about other unusual creatures, so the Natural History Museum in London is perfect for a day trip. This free museum offers lots of interactive fun for kids with exhibits ranging from beautiful wildlife photography to all-night Dino Snore events for both kids and adults!
Wanted to run wild and have a blast in the woods? Then BeWILDerwood in Norfolk is for you! This amazingly beautiful forest is full of treehouses, zip wires, jungle bridges, storytelling, boat rides, marsh walks and much more. The park is truly an imaginative adventure where everything has a little magic, and nothing is ordinary.
Have fun planning your trip to the UK!

Celebrate Carnaval in Trinidad & Tobago!
While most of the U.S. is freezing our bums off, the Caribbean’s ‘happiest’ nation,Trinidad & Tobago, is heating up with their annual Carnival celebration—the largest Carnival celebration in the Caribbean!
Over the past two centuries, Trinidad’s Carnival has developed into one of the most colorful and culturally diverse pre-Lenten celebrations in the world. Carnival season there actually starts after Christmas with events being held in the months leading up to the main event on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday each year. It’s the most significant event on the islands’ cultural and tourism calendar, and brings people from all walks of life and backgrounds together for a celebration of culture, calypso and cuisine!
The LIME Fête
Hyatt’s LIME fête is a benefit for charity—this year’s recipient is The Heroes Foundation—that takes place every year on Carnival Wednesday. This white and lime-green themed event is set amidst the breathtaking scenery of Port of Spain’s waterfront. A favorite with residents, jet-setting revelers and international celebrities alike, the LIME fête combines the best of soca music with classic calypso in the LIME lounge and flowing top-shelf liquor, champagne, wine, signature cocktails and culinary treats to tempt every palate. Lively performances from crowd pleasers Machel Mantano, Kes The Band, David Rudder, Bunji Garlin and others, plus the camaraderie among charismatic party goers, makes it the party of the year—every year!
Turtle Watching Season
If you can’t make it for Carnival, turtle watching season is right around the corner! From March through September, both Trinidad and Tobago are the home to some of the most important sites for sea turtles. With 80 percent of all leatherback turtles nesting in the insular Caribbean, one of the world’s most important leatherback turtle nesting locations, Trinidad offers a near guarantee to witness giant sea turtles on beaches. Tobago has an important population of hawksbills living in its numerous coral reefs and many of green turtles inhabit the sea grass beds off the coast. The nesting population on these islands makes the conservation efforts critical. The best time to spot a leatherback is during a beach walk on Matura Beach or Grand Riviere during their nesting time from March through July. The hawksbills, found in the coral reeds of Tobago, nest from May to September.

5 Best Travel Snacks for Kids
The right travel snack can save they day while the wrong one can bring on a hunger-fueled tantrum before you know it. We evaluated travel snacks based on messiness, liklihood of causing the dreaded sugar crash and heartiness and found five perfect travel snacks for kids we love. Whether by land, air or by sea, these snacks will keep you stress free!
DIY Trail Mix
When you make your own trail mix, you choose what’s in it. No hidden sugars here, just exactly what you want. And you don’t have to stick with the traditional granola! Use your favorite low-sugar cereal (Cheerios actually works great!), pretzels or even Teddy Grahams for a cute, slightly sweet base. Add raisins, yogurt drops, chocoloate chips, dried bananas, peanuts or whatever your kids love. You now have your own signature healthy, mess-free trail mix!
Yogurt is portable, but can be a little messy in the wrong circumstance. And be aware that some add sugar in the kid’s version. But, the right yogurt is a tasty, healthy treat that fills kids up. If you can’t find the right yogurt in a portable version, try a reusable cup. Some even have tops where you can store granola or fruit to add in later!
Fruits & Veggies
Bite-sized fruits and veggies are an ideal travel snack for kids. Sliced apples (add some cheddar chunks for protein!), Clementines, berries, cherry tomatoes, celery slices and baby carrots are all perfectly designed for travel. Colorful and yummy mini bell peppers are good, too!
Edamame is the perfect snack! This flavor-packed bean is nutrient dense and rich in protein and dietary fiber. Many people eat nuts by the handful, unaware of the substantial amount of fat they’re consuming. Even though nuts have good fat, edamame has less, so munch away!
Nothing beats the original travel food: sandwiches! Pretty much anything tastes good between two slices of bread, but for travel, use nut butters or thinly sliced veggies as fillers. Avoid ingredients that will fall or squish out of the sandwich as little ones are eating.
What are your favorite travel snacks for kids?

Blizzard? What Blizzard? We’re going to Puerto Rico!
Yes, there’s a blizzard on the east coast today, but it’s warm in Puerto Rico! At the famous, state-of-the-art Coqui Water Park, a new Piragua Concierge is serving up the popular Puerto Rican snow cone at a traditional Piragua cart. You get to eat a treat AND learn a little about the local traditions that go along with this yummy frozen treat.
Yes, those ARE gummy worms you see in the picture. Unlike American shaved ice, cotton candy, gummy worms, sour patch kids, whipped cream and others toppings are a definite “Yes!” on the piragua! Made of shaved ice and covered with fruit-flavored syrup, the refreshing pyramid shaped treat is available in both kid-friendly and adult-only flavors. Flavors range from coconut, strawberry and watermelon to Puerto Rican classics like Mojito, watermelon, wild berry or mango. And
The word piragua is derived from the combination of the Spanish words “piramide” (pyramid) and “agua” (water). While the traditional American snow cone is round and resembles a snowball, the piragua is pointy and shaped like a pyramid. Piraguas are frequently seen throughout the island of Puerto Rico as sold by vendors, known as piragüeros, in small colorful pushcarts.
I’m ready for snack, how about you?
