It’s the Season of Savings!
At Poshbrood, we love Groupons. What can beat trying new things and getting a great deal? How about Groupon Coupons? Coupon aggregators are convenient, but from what we saw, Groupon Coupons is the biggest and best—hosting some of the most sought-after stores—of all the sites we’ve tried!
We didn’t even know these existed until recently! Groupon Coupons is basically your bestie who knows all the greatest deals at every store you want to shop. Need the best deals every day? This is the site for you! Want a curated list of Black Friday Coupons? Groupon Coupons has that too! Shop by category, store or see what’s featured. And their blog is pretty awesome as well.
Remember a few months ago when we posted a Poshbrood review of some of our favorite adult sleepaway camps? Well, I was so intrigued by the idea—and one camp in particular—I had to try it for myself!
At the end of October, I headed out to Soul Camp in Sanger, CA. The location in NoCal was gorgeous, and the Wonder Valley facility was a perfect combination of rustic and modern. For anyone who needs to disconnect from their tech, recharge from busy family life or just spend a little time decompressing, Wonder Valley is the place to go!
Soul Camp’s tagline is “We believe in play, exploration, and untamed joy,” and camp was exactly as advertised. Activities and classes were all optional and included everything from yoga to zen bootcamp to classes on clean eating. Soul Camp Directors, Ali Leipzig and Michelle Goldblum, and their awesome staff worked 24/7 to make sure every aspect of our Soul Camp experience was perfect!
When the day is done, meet up for some fun by the campfire, bond with new friends, eat a s’more (or a few!) and remember the freedom of being a kid—whether you’re 25 or 65. There’s no age limit for Soul Camp, but no matter where are you are in life, you’ll come away a little more connected to yourself. You might even start on a journey of self-exploration you didn’t know you needed!
At Soul Camp, you’ll find yourself exploring new ideas you never thought you would—and loving it! Some you may not have even known existed. (Did you know Tibetan bowls sing? I didn’t, but I do now!) Soul Camp is one of the few places we can go as adults where there is absolutely no judgement. If you’re interested in something, go for it! Paddleboard yoga, dance, meditation, connecting with your own happiness… If that sounds like something you need, Soul Camp is waiting for you!
Alison Victoria Designs New Serenity Suite for Hotel Monaco
If you’re heading to Chicago, check out the new 578 sqft Serenity Suite designed by celebrity interior designer and HGTV/DIY Network star, Alison Victoria, at Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Chicago. The new suite provides a relaxed experience in a chic environment that is as extraordinary as the sweeping views of the city from the inviting window seats.
The suite was renovated in less than 30 days and is decorated using a calm, inviting neutral palate of varying grey tones accented with gold and marble. The space feels more like home than a typical hotel room!
The main feature of the guestroom is the eye-catching reclaimed wood wall that serves as the headboard accompanied by floating acrylic night stands. Alison sourced all services and products locally, so everything you see is from the Chicago area.
Traveling with your kids can be quite a bit to take on but doesn’t have to be as stressful as the stereotype. Check out these super savings, as well as these five traveling tips, and traveling with your kids will be a breeze!
Plan for More Time
Plan out your traveling schedule in advance, but be prepared to make adjustments. Never rely on rigid travel plans when you need to factor kids into the equation. You may forget something at home, or you might have to change an unexpected diaper. You just can’t predict all of the potential delays. If you have a 30-minute car drive to the airport, plan for 45 to 60 minutes. Better to be early than to be late!
Pack the Right Snacks
Vacation means everyone gets their favorite snacks and holiday treats, but save the sweeter treats for when you arrive. Too much sugar when traveling can lead to blood-sugar spikes and the dreaded postsugar meltdown. Pack healthy, delicious snacks that will keep the kids satisfied and calm during your travels. Ditch the candy bars, and try portable fruits, veggies or nuts!
Take a Break
You’re probably thinking the sooner you get there the better, but breaks can make the entire trip more enjoyable. Lunch breaks and naps will prevent crankiness—for the kids and you! Sometimes it’s better to sit down and eat at a restaurant or stop briefly at a scenic site and stretch. Trying to be a hero and driving all day and night isn’t always the best option. And ties in perfectly with our last (and potentially most important) tip.
Provide the Right Entertainment
Start thinking of ways to entertain the kids before you leave. Plan games your kids will enjoy, not just the games you grew up playing. The License Plate Game and I Spy are classics, but if your kids don’t like them, you won’t improve your situation much. Maybe your kids prefer Hangman, Sudoku or coloring books. Or maybe they would be better distracted by the endless apps on your iPad or phone. Help your kids pack games they like, or download the apps you know will entertain them before you lose your Wi-Fi.
Enjoy the Moments in Between
Traveling shouldn’t only be focused on getting from Point A to Point B. Plan to have fun and make memories! Start fun traditions your kids can expect on family travels: plan exciting places to visit along the way, stop and have picnics, create family mixtapes everyone will enjoy, anything to make the journey as exciting as the destination. Transform the most painful part of your vacation to the most anticipated!

The 207-room hotel features massive guest rooms and a rooftop pool and bar with stunning panoramic views of LA. The Rooftop is a trendy hot spot where you’ll find plenty of Hollywood insiders partying late into the nights. Owen Wilson, Charlize Theron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Mark Wahlberg, Seth Green and Sophia Coppola to name just a few!
Continuing the theme of taking over downtown LA corporate buildings, the trendy Ace Hotel is located in what used to be the United Artists building. Luxurious and ultra-hip, this hotel has all the amenities travelers and locals will want. As for the celebrities, Anna Kendrick, Rumer Willis, Jennifer Lawrence, Seth Rogan, Matt Damon and Harry Styles have all been seen hanging out at the rooftop bar.
Earlier this week, we shared our favorite apple picking farms on the east coast, but what about the autumn activities on the left coast? Apple picking was a little difficult this year due to drought, but there’s still fun to be had! Schedule some time to enjoy fall with the kids by heading over to the famous Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in the heart of Los Angeles.
A celebrity tradition in Los Angeles, Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch has tons of activities for kids like face painting, pony rides, petting zoo, pumpkin-themed bounce house, straw maze, pumpkin decorating and a super slide. Don’t miss the Halloween Boo-tique or the pumpkin carving Master Class!
Finding the perfect pumpkin won’t be a problem since all types, sizes and colors are available. Mr. Bones offers beautiful fresh autumn decorations, long-stemmed pumpkins, cornstalks, Indian corn, gourds, squash and even bales of straw!
It’s the time of year again when a certain crispness in the air means one of the most quintessential fall activities: apple picking! This week we’re sharing our favorite apple farms on the east coast for picking apples.
Applecrest Farm Orchards produces nearly 50,000 bushels of more than 40 distinct varieties of apples, including New England favorites MacIntosh, Cortland, Macoun, Ida Red,
Honeycrisp and Red Delicious every year. The orchard is open every day, so if you just want to pick apples, forget the weekend crowds, and head over right now! There’s no admission fee, bags for picking are available—and dogs are allowed. If you want the full apple experience, their awesome Harvest Festival takes place weekends in September and October. Want to experience true farm to dining table? Check out the Applecrest Farm Bistro—but you’ll need reservations!
Demarest Farms, Hillsdale, NJ
Prepare yourself for a new experience in apple picking. Demarest Farms features well-manicured trees, spectacular views and more than 14 tasty apple varieties. Historic Hotels of America Presents its Most Haunted Hotels II
It’s that time of year again—time for a ghostly tour of America’s Most Haunted Hotels courtesy of Historic Hotels of America. This year we’re exploring three of the spookiest hotels in the country!
The Francis Marion (1924) Charleston, South Carolina
In the early 1930s, New Yorker Ned Cohen was staying at the Francis Marion visiting his Southern lady friend in Charleston. No one is sure what happened, but he was found face down, body smashed in the middle of King Street facing toward the old Citadel’s parade grounds. Today, visitors hear eerie and unexplained sounds at night—rustling silk drapes, old windows rattling without the wind and an unexplained vision of what may be a man questioning either himself or a passerby. Some see him in shirt sleeves, others just feel his presence. Even though Ned Cohen’s body is buried in Cooperstown, New York, everyone at the Francis Marion knows his spirit resides in Charleston, South Carolina.
Lord Baltimore Hotel (1928) Baltimore, Maryland
Fran Carter has worked at the Lord Baltimore for many years. She is captain, supervising a team of people overseeing the food, beverage and setup needs of the hotel. In 1998, Fran was on the nineteenth floor of the building, preparing a small meeting room for future use. She was working at a table facing the wall with an open door to her left. She was bent over to her left at the doorway, when a little girl, wearing a long, cream-colored dress and black, shiny shoes, ran by bouncing a red ball. Fran immediately ran out and called after her, but the hallway was completely empty. The hotel has had many guests since its construction in 1928, and many have reported seeing this little girl roaming the hallways with a bouncing red ball.
Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa (1901) Honolulu, Hawaii
On February 28, 1905, Jane Stanford, co-founder of Stanford University, was vacationing at the Moana Surfrider in Hawaii following a strychnine poisoning attempt on her life when she passed away in her room at the Moana. Both guests and hotel staff report that her spirit still frequents the hotel where the beautiful ocean vistas brought her short-lived peace.

School has been back in session just long enough for it to be time for a fall break, and we’ve got suggestions for three fun getaways that will educate and entertain!
Take a trip to the birthplace of our country. The history is practically alive at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA. Visit the historic district and witness American history through Revolutionary War reenactments, horse-drawn carriage rides and a tour of the town. You won’t be able to see everything in one trip, so if you want a more primitive experience, take a short ride over to recreated Jamestown. Learn about the earliest American settlement and the colonists’ interactions with the Indians. If you need more adventure, visit nearby theme park, Busch Gardens, with its annual fall Howl-O-Scream festival – a night your family will never forget!
Poshbrood hometown Washington D.C. is always a great bet in fall! Tour the Smithsonian museums for practical, fun learning opportunities. You’ll never see your kids so excited to learn than when they visit the National Museum of Natural History. Ignite your children’s passion for knowledge and innovation with a trip to the National Air and Space Museum. Take a humbling walk through Arlington Cemetery and stimulate patriotic love within your young children. Visit the National Zoo to observe the world’s most exotic animals. Stop by the zoo’s Kid’s Farm, where your little ones can groom alpacas and donkeys and connect with nature in new ways.
Discover culture and history in an eye-opening exploration of Boston. Venture down the Freedom Trail and see Paul Revere’s house and the burial grounds from the Revolutionary War. Enjoy learning from costumed guides or plan your own adventure. Don’t forget to visit the Boston Tea Party Museum to toss a little bit of tea into the Boston harbor. Or participate in the many interactive exhibits over at the Boston Children’s Museum. Boston will forever change the way your children perceive history!
